Aoraki Secondary Schools Clay Target Shooting 2009

CLAY TARGET SHOOTING COMPETITION

Hosted and run by the Timaru Clay Target Club out at their Levels Club complex on Monday August 10th. twelve teams competed from six schools. Craighead Diocesan and Timaru Boys High School both entering three teams with Waimate and Opihi two apiece. Also competing were Waitaki Boys and Ashburton College. In all some 62 youngsters pitted their shooting skills to decide upon the regions best.

The prestigious competition “High Gun” titles were taken out by Craighead’s  Alysha Bell and Waimate High’s Travis Proffitt. Proffitt being relatively new and a decided “sharp eye” on the shooting scene is obviously making a very good fist of things too given the fact that he only missed three times in 110 shots. Impressive shooting indeed!

The Teams title was won by Timaru Boys High 1 (271) where Jessie Smith also won the Single Barrel. Waitaki, Ashburton and Waimate fought out the minors.

Craighead’s Alysha Bell celebrated a great competition in placing 1st in the Girls Single Rise but it was team mate Jess Sutherland who took the Highest Overall title. Bell’s high skills again saw her prevail to take “Highest Overall” in the Point Score with Jessica McDonald placing 1st from Opihi College’s Georgie McCullough. Bell then successfully stepped up again to take the Single Barrell “Highest Overall” title from Craighead’s Charlotte Irving and Bella Hargest-Slade.

Waimate High’s James Morgan won the “Highest Overall” in the Single Rise with William Rooney(tbhs), Scott McFaden(ashb) and Craig Robertson(wtkb) his nearest threats. Waimate High School celebrated further success when Travis Proffitt took out “Highest Overall” in the Points Score when dropping just one shot in sixty! Robertson, Thomas McIntyre(tbhs) and William Rooney(tbhs) filled the placings.

Shooting out of the TBHS 2 team it was Phillip Coutts who took the “Highest Overall” honours in the boys Single Barrell from Smith, Sutton and Morgan.
